About Record Union

With the mission to democratize the music industry, Record Union runs a distribution platform that puts artists’ music on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, Amazon, YouTube and many more. We create artist opportunities through our partnerships, music expertise and data science. We believe that independent artists should be able to stay independent and succeed independently. 

Record Union’s vision is to enable and support the full potential of every music creator in the world, and we are looking for a CTO to help us move closer to that vision through hands-on, agile and inspiring leadership. 

The CTO opportunity

As CTO and member of the Record Union management team, you will make executive technology decisions, and carry out the execution of these decisions together with your team of highly skilled engineers and designers. You are passionate about leading, coaching and developing people. 

Record Union services span a wide range of technical challenges such as:

  • Music delivery to partners (metadata compliance, audio, copyright)
  • Royalty management (high volume money streams with high requirements of security and auditing)
  • Stream analytics (artists/labels dashboard, artist discovery, performance projections and other product offerings)
  • End-user applications (web + native apps to come)
  • Internal products (music delivery administration, fraud detection etc)
  • All other SaaS-oriented aspects of offering a music distribution service at large scale

Areas of responsibility:

  • Be a central part of building a world-class engineering culture
  • Setting and executing the architecture and technology strategy based on the company wide vision and strategy
  • Leading a team of engineers, including managing performance, career progression and recruitment
  • Leading the company’s agile development process and making sure it’s aligned with the company’s other departments
  • Assessing, creating and maintaining excellent engineering practices
  • Budget responsibility for the tech team
  • Ensuring stability and performance of products and services, including security
  • Vendor/supplier vetting and management
  • Hands-on development if needed

  • Is results oriented and you thrive in environments characterized by constant change, complex market conditions and tough competition
  • Is an empathic, inspirational and communicative leader injecting positive energy into your team
  • Is a strategic thinker and an excellent communicator, but also likes to get their hands dirty and dive into the nitty-gritty when needed
  • Is commercially minded and understands business requirements 
  • Has a strong background in software development and architecture
  • Demonstrates excellence in building scaling platforms using agile development frameworks
  • Is a passionate music fan, as a creator or consumer
